Week 11-12 (3 Feb-14 Feb)

Helloooo, it’s Yong Lin here again! Week 11 was our final presentation and once we are all done, Peishan and I booked 2 bus tickets (Blablabus) to Strasbourg!😊😊

Firstly, we went to Notre-Dame, which is 10 minutes walk from the bus station we alighted. One of the good thing is you can save transport fee here as every location that we are heading to are quite near each other!

Right after, we walked for about 10 minutes to La Petite France, which is a famous neighborhood in Strasbourg. This place is a must go according to a lot of Strasbourg itinerary on Google and it forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. There were plenty of restaurants, cafes, groceries stores (for your souvenirs) and shops nearby hence you can easily spend half the day here.

Besides that, We had also tried cheese pretzel which is a must try when you go France and we bought Crème Brûlée from local supermarket and brought it back to Germany and it was so gooodddd!

With that, it concludes our day trip in Strasbourg and the end of our 12 weeks blog!! Thank you! 😊😊😊

Week 9-10 (20 Jan’20- 2 Feb’20)

Hi, this is Peishan again! I still cannot believe that our internship is ending soon. Time really does fly .

For these 2 weeks, we spent most of our time rushing on our project. Hence, we did not explore much πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… But, hey! We did manage to do a few exciting stuff!

For a start, Chinese New Year happened on 25 January and we celebrated by eating Hot Pot! We purchased these ingredients from the nearby supermarket and ate them in our Airbnb.

We also managed to grab our lunch at Deliburger on our way back from the University. The burger is super tasty and it is really value for money as the portion is huge.

I bought Veggie Burger while Yong Lin bought the original DeliBurger!

We also managed to explore the Durlach District and I enjoyed how peaceful and quiet the place was.

While we were there, we ate chicken at Gockel Turm. The place was very cozy and the food is delectable.

This chicken comes with bread and sauce!

This pretty much sums up what we did for these 2 weeks.

Thank you for reading this post and have a nice day!

Week 7-8 (6 Jan’20- 19 Jan’20)

Hello everyone, for week 7 and 8, we are not required to meet the professors hence we are able to code in our cosy Airbnb! Of course, we did not let the holiday gone to waste, we went to PARIS for a 5 day trip in this period too other than Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt!!

For first day of our Paris trip, we went to Eiffel tower and Champs-Γ‰lysΓ©es all on the same day! For Champs-Γ‰lysΓ©es, it consist of a lot of branded goods shop like LV, Gucci and so on. At that same place, we had our macarons from Laduree (2.6 euro each) which is a must to try when you come to Paris!

Next morning which is day 2, we headed to Boulevard Haussmann which is a shopping street. We walked and shopped for a while before heading to MusΓ©e du Parfum, a perfume museum which is just a few minutes walk away. The perfume museum is free for everyone and it offers free guided tour as well! The guide was super knowledgeable and it made the tour super enjoyable.

For our third day, we went to Montmartre, which is Paris’ most famous neighborhood. In that place, we visited Sacre coeur which is a church and is free of charge. Right after, we headed to CimetiΓ¨re de montmartre, which is a cemetery of famous people. We have also found Dalida’s statue and online states that touching her boobs brings you luck!

For our fourth day, we went to Louvre Museum which is a museum which is very well known in Paris and it is where Mona Lisa painting is kept at. Do note that if you are under 26 years old, admission is free on Fridays after 6pm and you just have to show a copy of your passport! The museum interior is super pretty and it is very difficult to not get lost in the museum.

For our last day, we headed to Quartier Chinois, Paris which is also known as Chinatown in Paris. The atmosphere there is nothing similar to Paris and it felt like we were in a different country.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ We went to Bercy Village right after to grab our lunch and we ordered a set lunch at FenΓͺtre Sur Cour which is 21 euro (Consist of coffee, burger with a side of fries and salad, dessert). It was delicious and worth the money hence we do recommend you to visit this place!

With that, this marks the end of our blog post and the end of our trip to Paris! Thank you for reading our post!

Week 5-6 (23 Dec’19- 5 Jan’20)

Hello, Peishan here! This marks week 5 of our internship and since the University is having Christmas Holidays, we were able to visit Cologne and Hamburg in Germany.

On our first day, we took the FlixBus and traveled to Cologne on the 26th December. One thing I did not know before I came here was that they are still celebrating the 2nd day of Christmas, hence, many shops were not open. However, this did not stop us from exploring the city. When we first arrived in Cologne, we discovered the Cologne Cathedral (KΓΆlner DΓΆm) and it was beautiful! There is no admission fee to the DΓΆm and since it was the 2nd Day of Christmas, it was packed with more people.

After admiring the view, we entered the DΓΆm and the cathedral’s interior was equally astounding as the outside. We were able to light the candles to celebrate Christmas.

After exploring the DΓΆm , we went to grab our dinner at Cafe Extrablatt. I bought Veggie burger while Yong Lin bought Kartoffel burger.

We then went to “Heinzels WintermΓ€rchen” (Heinzel’s Winter Fairy Tale), which is a walking distance from the restaurant. This is the oldest and largest Christmas market in Cologne and it also consists of a unique ice rink on the Heumarkt.

On our next day, we went to the Church of Great St. Martin as the entrance is free

We then proceeded to eat our meals at Peters Brauhaus for lunch.

I bought meatballs while Yonglin bought “Nuremberg”-style grilled sausages

On our third day, we left Cologne and headed straight to Hamburg!

KΓΆln Hauptbahnhof

When we arrived in Hamburg, it was around noon and it was too late to go anywhere. Hence, we spent most of our time in our Airbnb by playing with their cat.

Look at how cute this cat is

One thing I noticed in Hamburg was that they traveled a lot on buses as opposed to trains/trams. Hence, it could be a hassle to purchase their tickets with their ticket machines as some of their bus stops do not provide that.

To tackle this problem, we used the DB Navigator app to purchase our tickets before we started travelling and this is so much more convenient!

The next day, we went to the Planten un Blomen, an urban park with a size of 47 hectares. Since it was winter season, the view was slightly different from what I saw on the Internet. Nonetheless, it still looked amazing.

After visiting the park, we headed straight to the Blankense neighborhood and we managed to enjoy incredible views such as captains’ homes, mansions and river views

We alighted at this stop to visit the neighborhood

We also went to the Jungfernstieg and it was one of the oldest streets with a history that began in 1235. We spent our time strolling and shopping.

We also visited Nikolaifleet, which is a canal in Alstadt of Hamburg and it looked so spectacular that I had to take a photo of it.

With that, this marks the end of our Hamburg and Cologne trip. To anyone who read till the end, thank you for taking your time to read this post! πŸ™‚ See you next time!

Week 4 (16 Dec’19-22 Dec’19)

Hello, Yong Lin hereee!!😊😊😊 Currently is the week 4 of our intern, we went for a three days trip to Frankfurt and it was great!

For day 1, we went to RΓΆmer as it was one of the recommended place that Google recommends. Upon arriving there, we spotted Christmas market there and we decided to shop there for a bit. Here’s some of the picture that we took below!

We bought some food to try like Kartopuffelpuffer (which is like hashbrown but with a garlic sauce at 4.50 euro), hot chocolate (which is so GOOODDD at 3 euro), GlΓΌhwein (which is popular for Germans to drink especially during Christmas at 3.50 euro). The taste is a sweet with a bitter note and we managed to finish one full cup each. and Peishan bought her candy apple at 2 euro to try!

For second day, we went to 2 museums, namely MMK Museum of Modern Art and StΓ€del museum. If you are planning to travel by public transport a lot and visiting a lot of museums, we recommend you to buy Frankfurt card. It is available in one day or two day basis which allows you to ride unlimited public transport and some discounts on museums and even some food.

More information can be found in this link: https://www.frankfurt-tourismus.de/Informieren-Planen/Frankfurt-Card

We went to MMK Museum of Modern Art first and the price is 12 euro but with the Frankfurt card we got 50% discount which makes it 6 Euro. This museum is good and it even provides us with a book that has information of the art in English!

Right after, we head to StΓ€del museum which is around 15 minutes walk from the RΓΆmer Christmas market. This museum is one of the top rated museum so we had to go. The entry fees is more pricey at 16 Euros but we managed to got the ticket at 14 Euro because of Frankfurt card again!
Although the fees are expensive, we do not regret as we spent around 3 hours there and we were fascinated by the drawing and back story of Vincent Van Gogh (Which is the exhibition at the point of time).

Last but not least, on the last day, we went to Frankfurt Marketplaz station and we walked around there to shop. For our lunch, we ate at a shop that is called La Baguette and it has 4.4 stars rating on Google hence we decided to eat there. We bought a set which consist of baguette, and it comes with a choice of chicken, tuna, calamari, beef, vegetarian and many more options. Besides that, it has fries, drink as a sides for only 6.50 euro altogether which is super worth it!πŸ˜œπŸ‘

That’s it for our 3 days trip to Frankfurt!! We have holiday from now till Mid January so stay tune to more holiday trips from us!! See you next time.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Week 3 (9 Dec’19-15 Dec’19)

Hi, this is Peishan. 😊 I am honestly quite shocked by how fast time has passed. For this week, we went to a cafe called Unisono Coffeestore, which was a walking distance from our Airbnb. We loved the atmosphere in this cafe and hence, we stayed here for hours. πŸ˜…

For this meal, I ordered Wiener Melange and Yong Lin ordered Cappuccino. 😁 😁 😁

In addition, we also went to the State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe on Friday (Free admission from 1pm-5pm!). We got to see the natural history of animals and even experienced the impact of earthquakes in some countries!

Look at how cute this fish is

This concludes the summary of my third week. πŸ˜… πŸ˜… πŸ˜… Honestly, we did not do much this week but next week is going to be different! We are going to Frankfurt so stay tuned for our next week update!!

Week 2 (2 Dec’19- 8 Dec’19)

Hello, Yong Lin here!! This week’s blog will be written by me😊. For this week we have quite a lot of free time hence we have roamed around to explore and eat some food that are recommended by Google🀣🀣

Our first stop of the week is Matjes-Baguette from Nordsee. According to Nordsee’s website, it is a Hanseatic classic popular throughout Germany. The baguette consists of a fish called herring, which we believed is cured, and other fresh vegetables to accompany with the baguette like onions, tomatoes and cucumbers. I personally think it is worth the try, however, if you don’t like fishy smell then i guess you won’t like it😁

Matjes-Baguette for 3.29 Eur

For our second stop, we went to a bakery and we ordered Berliner as it was on offer which is 3 for 1.89 Eur!! It is like a sugar coated donut with fruit jam inside and that’s one of the food that we will repurchase!!😜😜😜

3 Berliners for 1.89 Eur

Okay okay, enough of the food, now we will talk about the one of the places that we have gone to. On Friday, we visited the ZKM museum and exhibit name is called Writing the History of the Future. The admission to that exhibit is free and there are 2 floors worth for us to walk and explore. The total amount of time we spent there is around 2 hours plus and there wasn’t a lot of people which is good for us. πŸ‘πŸ‘ We personally think that this museum is worth the visit!!

That’s it for our week 2, thank you for reading and come back for week 3 next week!!!!😊

Week 1 (25 Nov’19- 1 Dec’19)

Hello, this is Peishan from Diploma of Information Technology. In this blog, my partner, Yong Lin(Diploma in Financial Informatics) and I would be writing a weekly post on our trip. πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„

Since this is the first week, there is honestly nothing much to say. πŸ˜… πŸ˜… πŸ˜… On our first day, it was really really tiring. Ours was a midnight flight so we were on the plane for 12 hours. Hence, we slept throughout our journey and woke up for 2 meals.

When we landed in Frankfurt, the weather was so cold. (It was 4 degrees at that time!) We had to put on our outer jackets to keep ourselves warm.

This picture was taken when we arrived at the airport and we looked so exhausted. (By the way, it was 6am)πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

We waited for a few hours before we took FlixBus to Karlsruhe. (We took the FlixBus because it was cheaper than the train). It took around 2 hours to reach there.

When we arrived at Karlsruhe, the place was amazing. It was so pretty and different from how Singapore looks.

On our first day, we spent most of our days settling. The next day, which is Tuesday, we met up with the Professors and discussed our assignments. On our way home, we managed to grab some food for lunch.

This food costs around €1.50!

We actually bought pretzels too but we didn’t manage to take a good photo so I am not going to upload it. πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† On our way back home, I also got to take a picture of a church which looks so different from the ones in Singapore.

One interesting thing that I ate in Germany was trΓΌffel chicken. It was one of the signature collection at McDonald’s and it costs around €9.09 for a meal. Yong Lin and I purposely picked the meal that could not be found in Singapore. She bought bacon ts and it was €7.99 .

Another interesting food that we ate was currywurst. (This is really spicy!!) We went to a place called Curry76 and they are famous for selling currywurst. We were asked to choose our spicy level and we chose middle one. (they called it 911) Although I have mentioned it earlier, but this was quite spicy. Maybe I should have picked the lower spicy level πŸ˜… πŸ˜… πŸ˜… but nonetheless, it tasted delicious.

Our buddy also mentioned to us that there is a Christmas Market in Karlsruhe and both locals and tourists love to visit there. The place was so beautiful! There were thousands of lights and it felt so magical. They sell a plethora of things which includes candles, candies, cotton candy and roasted almonds.

With that, this concludes the summary of my first week and my partner, Yong Lin πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ would be uploading her experiences for the second week.
